The easiest way to understand exposure is to compare the camera lens to an eye. Inside every lens there is an iris that controls the light and darkness of a photo.
Have you ever heard a photographer say "My pictures come out so good, they don't need editing?" Well, that should never be the case for Real Estate Photography. Or have you noticed anytime you take a picture of a sunset, the photo does not come out the way you see it in person?
Well the answer is simple, it is all about the exposure. You see, the camera can not take multiple exposures at the same time, but our eye can. if you notice in the photographs above in certain areas you can see every detail nicely, but the rest of the photo is washed out. This just mean the exposure is set to capture the detail of that area in particular, but because the light or darkness of the other part of the photo is completely different it creates this unbalance. The washed out area in the photo just means the area has a lot more light than the area you are currently capturing.
